Wordpress Upgrade and more…

General, Mavenous Updates No Comments »

So after noticing some unwanted users, and edits made to posts by an individual other than myself, i did a little research and found that the version of Wordpress i was previously using had a mysql injection vulnerability in the admin ajax script… nice.

I have since upgraded the blog to version 2.5.1, and hopefully thrwarted a few additional attempts to continue turning my blog into a spam-land free-for-all. Hopefully, that is.

Anyway, moving on. Still working on the next version of Maveno.us; as a little preview of what’s to come, the new version will include a reverse dictionary, antonym and synonym lookup, and several changes to the interface for easier access, and better organization. Spellcheck will be made easier to use, and include some additional features related to access it in the interface as well. I need to update the roadmap, and, actually, all but change it entirely. *sigh*

It’s coming, slowly, but surely. Work and school, and being a dad take precedence, of course, so it’s still just a side project. ;)

Holy shit; where’d everyone go?

So traffic has been dwindling, my interest has been else where, and i’m sick of all the hobos that have been sleeping in hallways around here. Time to dust off the shelves, bring in some new stock, and setup shop again. I’m working on a new version; a version to be based off the MooTools.net Ajax library. It will still have a PHP backend framework, but PHP5, and hopefully an even more optimized front-end GUI.

I’m looking to take suggestions for what anyone would actually want to see changed, or added.

Apache Deflate compression stats

This is just frickin’ amazing. I started to doubt that the Apache deflate/gzip was really doing all that much in the way of bandwidth savings, so I decided to go thru and see just how much the compression was saving in transfer. Here’s what I found out.

File Name Original Gzipped
index.php 3.33kb 1.31kb
mav-style-halo-min.css 3.41kb 1.23kb
mavenous-halo.js 40.39kb 11.20kb
mavenous-min.js 11.45kb 3.59kb
favicon.ico 1.12kb 1.12kb
ibttn.gif 0.55kb 0.55kb
mav_bg.gif 0.10kb 0.10kb
mav_logo.png 3.62kb 3.62kb
page_bg.gif 0.15kb 0.15kb
TOTALS 64.12kb 22.87kb

That’s a total compression of about 64%, that’s just frickin’ amazing, as I stated earlier. I take back everything bad I ever said about Apache. I don’t exactly ever remember saying anything bad about them, but if I ever have, I take it back. :P

Anyway, this really excited me, and I thought I would share it with you all, you may carry on now.
