Apache Deflate compression stats
General No Comments »This is just frickin’ amazing. I started to doubt that the Apache deflate/gzip was really doing all that much in the way of bandwidth savings, so I decided to go thru and see just how much the compression was saving in transfer. Here’s what I found out.
| File Name | Original | Gzipped |
| index.php | 3.33kb | 1.31kb |
| mav-style-halo-min.css | 3.41kb | 1.23kb |
| mavenous-halo.js | 40.39kb | 11.20kb |
| mavenous-min.js | 11.45kb | 3.59kb |
| favicon.ico | 1.12kb | 1.12kb |
| ibttn.gif | 0.55kb | 0.55kb |
| mav_bg.gif | 0.10kb | 0.10kb |
| mav_logo.png | 3.62kb | 3.62kb |
| page_bg.gif | 0.15kb | 0.15kb |
| TOTALS | 64.12kb | 22.87kb |
That’s a total compression of about 64%, that’s just frickin’ amazing, as I stated earlier. I take back everything bad I ever said about Apache. I don’t exactly ever remember saying anything bad about them, but if I ever have, I take it back.
Anyway, this really excited me, and I thought I would share it with you all, you may carry on now.
